New York City

I made it to New York! This was my first time to New York City and I got to live my Gossip Girl dreams, even if I was more of a Dan Humphrey than a Blair Waldorf.

Getting There

The evening of us leaving, Davey kept saying we were arriving in New York at 2 pm. I was so confused because I thought for sure we were arriving at 11 am. Just a couple hours before us leaving, we check our flights and his flight from Toronto to New York was scheduled for 3 hours later than mine! We made a little vlog about it all, so stay tuned for that!

Day One

Day one mostly entailed us getting to our airbnb with a few pitstops. Thank goodness we got metro cards that were for 7 days unlimited because I am sure we used it 11 times that first day! We ended our day with a Yankees games against the Tampa Rays! We arrived just in time to see all the highlights of the game, which included two home runs! I loved that I got to go to my first MLB game in New York with Davey! I'm still coming for you Blue Jays!

Day Two

What a day! First full day in New York and someone has got to buy me some Dr. Scholl's insoles for the next New York trip! We went for a quick bite and coffee and then went to the New York Public Library which was so neat inside! It blows my mind that something as simple as a library could be in such a beautiful building! We made our way to Grande Central Terminal and all I could hear was "spotted: getting off the train at Grande Central...".  We spent some time in Central Park and I was keeping an eye out for one of my favourite bloggers, Taza. She actually was there just before we got there! If anyone knows her, tell her I said hi! We made our way to MoMA and passed the Love statue. I loved MoMA and it was incredible to see so many classic artists there; Picasso, Van Gogh, Matisse, Pohlock, it was truly amazing! We then ended our day with sunset on a rooftop thanks to Andy and a quick jaunt to Times Square!

Day Three

Davey and I woke up early to get a bunch into our day! We had such an incredible, jam-packed day! We started our morning with a walk in Dumbo to get that iconic view of the Manhattan Bridge. It was such a beautiful area and one of the cleanest places we were in the city. We then walked over the water on the Brooklyn Bridge. The view from the bridge is something different, you can see so much skyline and it is crazy to think how much there is in this city. We grabbed a quick bite at Starbucks and walked over to Chinatown. There are so many interesting colours and definitely some different architecture in the area. Then we did some wandering and I got to go to the Glossier Showroom! It was truly incredible and there is definitely something to being able to test products because I bought products I didn't think I would like but actually love! So much fun up there. Does anyone know how to get hooked up with one of those pink jumpsuits though?! We worked our way over to Oculus and the World Trade Centre. We ended with a very long walk from Washington Square Park to Williamsburg Bridge for sunset.

Day Four

Another early morning start took us to Nolita. It was quite the interesting part of town and really, you have to eat your way through it! We started with breakfast at The Butcher's Daughter. I was a bit skeptical considering they're vegan-ish (they do serve eggs), but to my surprise it was actually incredible! We also were a bit early to stop at Pietro's to grab a coffee at this very millennial cafe, where everything is pink! Luckily we got a good photo op outside. We went to Washington Square Park and enjoyed plenty of beautiful streets along the way. I love all of the fire escapes and old buildings! I realized at this time that I hadn't had a proper New York treat yet, so we went for a midday treat at Milk and Cream, a cereal and ice cream bar. It was so much better than I expected for mixing cereal with ice cream, and I highly recommend it. We spent our afternoon at Chelsea Market, avoiding the sun. Davey tried a peanut butter milkshake from Creamline and he loved it! We also got to check out the High Line which used to be the old railroad track and is now a beautiful walkway with greenery. We ended our day at the ShakeShack in Madison Square Park and checked out the Flatiron Building

Coming Home

I wasn't sure if I should share this but honestly, it was the most impactful part of my trip and I wouldn't be me if this wasn't part of my story.

The day I was heading home, I was all checked in. I said goodbye to Davey in the city since he was continuing on to another trip later that day. We had decided not to use data while we were there and were relying on wifi. I got to the train to the airport, got on board and on one of the following stops I received an email saying my flight had been cancelled and I was put on a flight for the next morning. There I was without my travel buddy and without any way of figuring it out. I decided to continue on to the airport and figure it out when I got there. I got off the train to get on the bus only to realize I had gone one stop too far. I got back on the train and wasn't sure I'd make the bus, or I'd have to wait another 20 minutes. I got off the train again, rushed down with my luggage in the blazing heat and made the bus just in time. I got off at the airport as the map said, only to enter the airport and have someone tell me the airline I was looking for was in a different terminal and I couldn't even walk there due to all the construction. I had to get back on the bus and finally found the counter I was looking for. I was the next person in line and was helped fairly quickly. I stood behind the desk for probably thirty minutes as the lady behind the desk was working away. During her frantic typing she said "Lord help me" and I replied "amen". I honestly believe this is all it took. She got me on the very last seat on a flight that was actually 2 hours delayed and should have departed before I even arrived. Through all the missed train stops, early bus stops and delayed flights I truly believe that this was God going before me and making a way. I was so anxious but I did it and God blessed me!

Thanks for reading! Have you ever been to New York? Do you want to?
