Italy: Part Two 2017

Italy continued! Here is the second half of our incredible roadtrip across Italy. If you missed part one, you can find it here. Again, all our favourite airbnb's are linked if you are curious!

Rome and Vatican City (3 days)

Of course Rome is the biggest attraction in Italy! So I scheduled the most time for us here. Rome was very different because unlike Verona, everything was rather spread out and everyday Italian life overlaps with the historical places. You could see people waiting for the bus to go to work right outside the Coliseum! But it was still the best feeling to see all these famous places! We also bussed to the Vatican City and went inside St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museum to see the Sistine Chapel.

Our airbnb in Rome was more of a guest house and felt so fancy! The location was what made it such a prime spot.

Naples (1 day)

Naples was slightly unexpected. I was really looking forward to being on the beach again but when we got to Naples, we first went to check out our hotel. This was the one and only hotel I booked and when we got to the area, it was so sketchy looking that we didn’t even get out of the car! It was terrifying. So we looked for a last minute airbnb and went there. It wasn’t in the heart of Naples and ended up being a little outside of town down one of those roads you would expect of Italy; two way traffic on a road barely big enough for one car and three-point turns around corners. Once we got down the hill to our airbnb we realized we didn’t want to go back up to somehow find dinner so we ended up having a bag of chips from the ice cream stand on the beach nearby!

Pompeii (a morning stop)

This was actually such a good stop! It was very interesting to walk around in what was once people’s homes and communities; seeing their old kitchen utensils and gardens. I highly recommend it if you are planning your trip! After Pompeii we started the long drive back toward Venice where our flight would be departing in a couple days.We stopped halfway and I’m so glad we did because traffic on this ridiculous highway was actually so bad!

San Benedetto Val di Sambro (1 night)

Because of the terrible traffic we got to our very secluded airbnb quite late but lucky enough, just in time for dinner! The man who owns the agrituirismo also runs a restaurant a few nights a week and it was some of the best food I’ve had! I wish we had spent one more day here so that we could make use of the pool and hot tub and explore the cute town!

Venice (3 days)

Finally Venice! It was so much busier than I anticipated! I’m surprised the city isn’t sinking from just holding too much weight! It was awesome to walk around and explore. My favourite part was when we stumbled upon this bookstore than I had pinned on Pinterest for years! It was exactly as appeared in the photos, a wall and staircase made of books, gondolas filled with books and old statues in the middle of the store.
