Nova Scotia
Last summer, Davey and I had the opportunity to travel to Halifax, Nova Scotia! Canada is a huge country and being able to visit other provinces can sometimes feel like you’re visiting a different country because of how diverse the culture and the landscape truly is. Coming from Alberta, the west coast, heading east is always a treat and this was truly no exception! We loved seeing some more of the east coast and below is a little summary of our trip and some recommendations.
Of course, one of our first stops was the waterfront. There we were able to get some beautiful views, experience the iconic Cows ice cream and enjoy the antique feel of the historic buildings.
We visited the waterfront a few times during our trip as there are a plethora of great restaurants, photo ops and treats to experience! The waterfront holds many historic buildings, fun alleys and a lot of action.
Along the waterfront is a very popular beer garden and eatery, Stubborn Goat. Just outside of this bumpin’ spot there are tiny shops set up for treats and goods, many of which contain these painted walls.
In contrast to the colourful and historic feel of the waterfront, downtown Halifax is home to an inner city garden oasis and houses one of the most architecturally modern and stunning libraries I have ever seen.
From the Waterfront, you can take a quick ferry ride over to Dartmouth. Dartmouth is an up-and-coming little town just over the water. As you come off the ferry and walk up into downtown, you are greeted by a beautiful wall of greenery and a walkway lined with flowers. The area holds so much from local shopping, to beautiful murals, and especially good eats. We were able to try a delicious brunch and gourmet waffle cone on this quick little afternoon trip.
Moving beyond the incredible city of Halifax, we were able to explore the surrounding rural areas of Nova Scotia. In a short drive you are greeted by picturesque fishing docs, hazy light houses and ocean views. Every nook of Nova Scotia is quaint and vibrant.
Besides historic and modern architecture, fishing villages and lighthouses, my favourite part of much of the east coast, including Nova Scotia, is all of the colourful houses! These colourful houses are so fun and I can only imagine how much joy they bring on foggy and rainy days. How can you not be happy when looking at these pastel pretties?!
If you want to know any specific places we visited during our time, take a look at our custom google map! You can save it right to your personal google account to refer back to. Many of the locations also include the photos we took while there and a little description to help you.
I also would like to honour those who have recently passed in the shooting in rural Nova Scotia and those family members who lost loved ones. I pray for peace over those who have to face this tragedy in a personal way.
